Disposable silverware is becoming more common than ever before, but at the same time we are experiencing an unprecedented amount of plastic finding its way to our oceans and other ecosystems. To address this issue, I designed this line of disposable silverware made entirely of a single small square of paper. These silverware pieces can be made out of recycled paper and coated with a bioplastic PLA (similar to the coating on paper cups) to create a cutlery set that is not only good for the environment but highly fashionable. Typical disposable silverware suffers from structural weakness and a “cheap” feeling on both the hand and the tongue - through hundreds of design iterations and structural experiments I have ensured that my silverware feels great and retains its strength even after prolonged use.
